$10,000 Donation from GN Resound Funds AuD Education

Lafayette, IN -The Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) has received a $10,000 donation from GN ReSound to support its mission to transition Audiology to a healthcare profession with the AuD as its first professional degree. The donation will provide funding for scholarships.

Since AFA's founding in 1989 to the present, the AFA has pushed the profession to a higher degree - the AuD. Currently almost 20% of the profession hold an AuD degree, and thousands more are in programs earning their degrees currently. The first AuD degree programs opened in 1993-94, and the first graduates completed their degrees in 1996. The AuD movement is intended to put Audiology on par with other doctoral healthcare professions such as optometry, dentistry, etc.

"The improved education provided in doctoral programs prepares graduates for today's high tech, high patient care environment," said Ken Lowder, AuD, AFA's Chair. "Without support from the hearing industry, the AFA would not be able to fulfill its mission. We are very grateful for GN ReSound's support over the years."
