Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) Pro and GSI for Pediatric Audiologists

View Course Details Please note: exam questions are subject to change.

1.  What is the optimal placement of VRA reinforcers and sound field speakers for pediatric testing?
  1. 45 degrees to one or both sides of the patient.
  2. 90 degrees to one or both sides of the patient; 45-degree positioned reinforcers are generally insufficient for eliciting an observable head turn.
  3. 180 degrees, because more is better.
  4. 360 degrees, to either side…wait, that’s a full circle.
2.  What is the minimum size audiometric booth required to perform VRA using sound field?
  1. A booth about the size of a large freezer/refrigerator.
  2. 4’ x 4’ because that is the space we have been given for a booth.
  3. 6’ x 6’ so that you are 1 meter away from each sound field speaker.
  4. There is NO minimum size to be able to do VRA
3.  What are 3 UNIQUE and PATENTED features of the VRA PRO System from CPI?
  1. Patented wireless signal encryption for VRA, patented ability to control 5-6* VRA reinforcer units from a single wireless remote, and a patented CPA system integrated into the same unit as a Video VRA.
  2. Ability to load your own custom content for VIDEO VRA.
  3. Ability to change VRA stimuli from the remote.
  4. Ability to use the VIDEO VRA as a distractor for other audiological testing procedures, such as OAEs and Tympanometry.
4.  Why do we need at least 1 1-meter distance from the sound field speaker to the patient’s head for VRA testing?
  1. So the child’s arms cannot reach and touch the VRA reinforcers.
  2. We need to be 2 wavelengths away from the speaker, this helps reduce nearfield effects and standing waves for accurate test results.
  3. Because headphones and inserts won’t reach if we go more than 3 meters.
  4. There is NO a minimum required distance from the sound field speaker
5.  With the Big Red CPA Button from CPI in the VIDEO VRA Pro, what does the “Tester Agreement” feature do?
  1. Allows the audiologist to control when the visual stimuli appear, even when a child hits the Big Red CPA button.
  2. Allows two audiologists to agree.
  3. Allows for distraction of the child for testing such as OAEs and Tympanometry.
  4. Allows the child to do conditioned play audiometry.
