Selecting vestibular assessment tests should be based on medical necessity and answering clinically based questions related to individual patient symptoms, past medical history, and signs. This intermediate presentation will provide an overview of vestibular measures and best-practice guidelines in vestibular assessment, and help the attendee understand best-practice approaches in the vestibular clinic.

Newborn hearing screening brochures are provided to families around the time of the hearing screening and contain information about the screening, the results, and potential next steps. This article describes the results of a study investigating the suitability of current newborn hearing screening brochures, in addition to a study investigating the likelihood that someone would understand a ‘refer’ screening result. These studies reveal that many current newborn hearing screening brochures could be revised to make the information more accessible to families and that the use of the word ‘refer’ to describe a hearing screening result should be avoided because it is potentially confusing to most people.

Within the past 5 years there has been a rebirth of interest in an evoked potential referred to in the past as the “inion potential.” In this session we will describe its history, recordability and potential usefulness in the assessment of the vestibular cerebellum.

The course explores ways to draw on Deaf professionals' expertise in working with families of Deaf and hard of hearing infants and young children. A highlight of Deaf people's knowledge, experiences, expertise, and contributions in the EHDI (Early Hearing Detection and Intervention) System will be discussed.
