Teenagers and pre-teenagers with hearing loss have unique and diverse listening needs, with listening demands at home, at school, at work, and in extracurricular activities. This course reviews the unique challenges facing this population and examines some hearing aid technologies that can help teenagers in their daily lives, including noise reduction, tap control, and microphone directionality.

This course examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing hearing aid technology, highlighting how AI enhances sound processing, adapts to user preferences, and enables real-time adjustments to improve listening experiences in diverse environments. The discussion will cover AI’s ability to personalize users’ listening experiences through predictive algorithms and continuous learning from user feedback.

Sound enhancement and tinnitus masking are cornerstones of the clinical management of chronic bothersome subjective tinnitus. This course reviews the subtle but effective changes to hearing aid programming when hearing aids are fitted for the purpose of managing tinnitus symptoms, including masking sounds and soft-sound enhancement.

Single-sided deafness (SSD) poses unique challenges to both the patient and the managing audiologist as SSD negatively impacts the ability to localize sound as well as speech understanding, especially in the presence of background noise. Clinical recommendations may be inconsistent as there is not a definitive best practice for the audiologic management of SSD so this presentation will review patients across the lifespan who pursued each treatment option and experienced varying outcomes.

This course discusses new developments in genotyping and phenotyping auditory neuropathy and auditory synaptopathy (AN/AS). Background information, evaluation, and management are discussed.
