This course discusses the construct of listening-related fatigue and its relevance to adults and children with hearing loss. We also describe the Vanderbilt Fatigue Scales, a suite of subjective measures designed to assess listening-related fatigue, and briefly discuss possible mitigation strategies for reducing the impact of listening-related fatigue in those most affected.

Ben Hornsby is an Associate Professor in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Hornsby’s broad research interests include the causes, and impact, of the speech understanding difficulties that often accompany hearing loss. His current research focuses on relationships between hearing loss-related communication difficulties, mental effort, and fatigue.
