Oticon Opn S features a unique approach to processing speech in complex environments – OpenSound Navigator. In this seminar, the effect of this signal processing approach on the ability of the brain to lock on to more than one speaker in the environment will be demonstrated. Further, the unique speed and effectiveness of OpenSound Navigator compared to alternative approaches will also be demonstrated.

Learning Outcomes
- After this course learners will be able to explain the values of using EEG recordings to examine the ability of the brain to track specific speech signals.
- After this course learners will be able to describe how the activation of OpenSound navigator allows the brain the to track more than one speaker in the environment while at the same time suppressing meaningless background noise.
- After this course learners will be able to discuss how the speed of OpenSound Navigator allows it to attack noise signals more effectively than alternative signal processing approaches.

Vice President of Audiology
Don Schum currently serves as Vice President of Audiology for Oticon, Inc. In that capacity, Don has the responsibility to create and implement new Audiological training material, oversee the Audiological training of all employees, develop dispenser support materials and tools, conduct clinical research, and participate in national and international conferences. Previous to his position at Oticon in Somerset, Don served as the Director of Audiology for the main Oticon office in Copenhagen Denmark. In addition, he served as the Director of the Hearing Aid Lab at the University of Iowa School of Medicine (1990-1995) and as an Assistant professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (1988-1990). During his professional career, Don has been an active researcher in the areas of Hearing Aids, Speech Understanding, and Aging. Don received his B.S. in Speech & Hearing Science from the University of Illinois, his MA in Audiology from the University of Iowa, and his PhD in Audiology from Louisiana State University.
