René Gifford holds the Fred H. Bess Chair in Audiology, is a tenured Professor of Hearing and Speech Sciences, and is Director of the Implantables, Hearing Enhancement, and Amplification Research (I HEAR) Laboratory at Vanderbilt University in the School of Medicine. Her research has been funded by the NIH for over 20 years and focuses on auditory perception for individuals with cochlear implants and hearing aids including basic auditory function, audiovisual processing, spatial hearing, as well as speech, language, and literacy. She has over 150 peer-reviewed publications and is the author of a book, now in its second edition, entitled “Cochlear Implant Patient Assessment: Evaluation of Candidacy, Performance, and Outcomes."

Jacob Hunter
MD
Jacob Hunter is currently the Otology/Neurotology Division Chief and Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his Neurotology Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with The Otology Group, having been recruited to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where he was the Dedmon Family Scholar in Clinical Care. He has clinical and research interests including vestibular schwannoma management, cochlear implants, endoscopic ear surgery, skull base surgery and chronic ear disease.

Phillip Chang
MD
Dr Phillip Chang specializes in ear surgery in children and adults with training and interest in tympanomastoid surgery, cochlear implants and acoustic neuroma surgery. Following his ENT training in Sydney, Dr Chang completed a series of fellowships with Ugo Fisch in Zurich, David Moffatt in Cambridge and The House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles. Currently Dr Chang operates at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Sydney Children’s Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, Norwest Hospital and St Luke’s. In addition, Dr Chang serves as the clinical director for a pediatric cochlear implant program (The Shepherd Centre) and an adult program (Hearing Implants Australia).
