I was pleased that the author of the course is both a well trained audiologist and an economist. The data was both well presented and presented from an unusual point of view. The profession needs to hear more from this instructor.

Looking at long term audiology vs HIS was as expected but glad to see it included, price of hearing aids does not influence purchase!!! wow, I need to raise my prices!TeleHealth - that would be interesting to be involved in as well.

As a business owner, I am always considering what's coming in the future. You never want to hear it, but in this case, pure data analysis points to the fact that our field is not large enough to service the needs of consumers. What if we start promoting the profession so we can rethink other treatment modalities' that don't work.

It explained why hearing instruments/counseling/diagnostic equipment are and have been a vital part of our treatment/operation options, particularly for those of us in private practice. It would help to have more business accounting/marketing courses incorporated into university programs...since we are hearing healthcare providers, and we do need to know profit margins/cost of goods, payroll obligations, etc. Can't help anyone, if you cannot maintain your business practice!

The instructor was very honest in his assessment of our field. Suggestions made to move the designation to provider from supplier would be fair. I still struggle with the fact that the profession has moved to doctoral level only. While I have an AU.D. and have been practicing for 39 years in the profession, moving away from offering a Master's Degree may have hurt our profession in the long run. There are just not enough of us to meet the demand and as our baby boomers retire, this is clear.

This was an eye opening look at many issues that I don't think many practitioners think about very often. Back in the '90's and early 2000's audiology was a fast growing profession, but that no longer seems to be the case. I think a lot of burnout happens with audiologists because they end up doing a very high volume of work that doesn't appear much different than an HAS, and here we are on a trend where HAS will be outnumbering audiologists.

It felt good to read "compassion" about our field and see promise that even with everything we've experienced (Covid, OTC regulations regarding HA, telehealth) there continues to be a need for hearing health care professionals. It has been a struggle with the demands placed upon ourselves by our peers, our jobs and even the consumers to provide the best possible care, counseling and education to those in need of our services. In addition the course highlighted current issues & some solutions.
