The field of hearing health care research would benefit from evaluating and expanding pragmatic translational research approaches to extend equitable hearing health care and novel interventions to diverse populations. This presentation will explore pragmatic approaches to address health disparities through research and community-based program development.

It is important to understand how unseen barriers can affect access to care in Audiology. This course will explore the topic of trauma, how it relates to equity, trauma-informed care, and ways to implement this approach in the field of Audiology.

Now that over-the-counter hearing aids are FDA-codified and commercially available, this course reviews the opportunities, threats and challenges associated with OTC devices. Additionally, the course discusses the key differences between Personal Sound Amplification Products (PSAPs), the various types of OTC devices and how those devices can be used as an on-ramp to prescription hearing aids and personalized hearing care services.

Target fitting software is an integral part of the fitting process and is being updated regularly. While much of the fitting software remains the consistent with previous versions, updates include new hearing performance features, programing options and fitting functionality. The software will be discussed in detail to provide confidence when programming Phonak hearing aids.

Including an overview of the technology, gain and output limitations, and whether they are self-fitting or not? Further discussion if FDA 510(k) is required? Where will they be sold? Sheila Thelen, President of Vestibular Training Services and Master Rated Figure Skating Coach, applied these world-class vestibular training tools (USA Patent) in an INNOVATION presentation on how spinning affects the vestibular system and can improve the brain’s ability to balance and the cognitive processes. Sheila speaks about applying world-class athletic training tools to the general population.

Recent reports suggest that 12 to 15% of adults have self-reported hearing difficulties and normal pure tone audiograms. This suggests that the traditional pure tone audiogram is a relatively poor indicator of functional communication difficulties. In this podcast, Lina Zadeh, PhD, discusses how extended-high frequency audiometry, distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) and the Digits-in-Noise (DIN) test can be used clinically to identify hidden hearing loss. She also explores effective management strategies for those identified with this condition.

Multidisciplinary intervention of individuals at risk of falls and post-fall is crucial to effective rehabilitation and prevention of future falls. This course identifies areas of collaboration and supportive information-sharing strategies between professions who commonly see individuals who fall and are likely to be injured due to a fall.

This course will introduce telehealth options to support children with cochlear implants to include the use of Remote Check, Remote Assist and tablet-based remote programming. Specific protocols and real-life clinical examples will be provided.
