Aurical HIT Applications: Part 2 – RECD and Additional Verification of Advanced Hearing Aid Features
Hearing instrument test boxes can provide clinicians with invaluable tools to complete the hearing aid fitting and verification process for certain populations and circumstances. This course will highlight the use of Aurical HIT and PMM in the process of completing real ear to coupler difference (RECD) measurements and fitting. Integrated verification with the Aurical HIT will also be demonstrated with Phonak. Additionally, clinical applications for analysis of advanced hearing aid features will be reviewed and demonstrated that were not completed in Aurical HIT Applications: Part 1.

In a Changed World, Optimizing Patient Outcomes Requires a Blended Care Approach
Although in-person care is likely to remain the gold standard after the Covid 19 pandemic, remote care (or eHealth) provides a boost in operational efficiency, offers added touchpoints that enhance patient outcomes and appeals to untapped segments of the market who until now have not sought help for their hearing difficulties. This 1-hour course will review how evidence-based practice and relationship centered communication can be implemented in a blended approach to hearing care, including use of Signia’s new suite of telecare services.

Hearing Intervention and Cognition: Review of the Evidence and Current Trials
Hearing loss is associated with decreased health-related quality of life, accelerated cognitive decline, and dementia. Cognition may be amenable to comprehensive hearing rehabilitative treatment consisting of the use of hearing technologies (hearing aids, Osseointegrated devices, and other assistive devices) and rehabilitative training. However, there are no randomized controlled trials to definitely show that hearing intervention can reduce the rate of cognitive decline. Furthermore, little is known about the different types, degrees, and configurations of hearing loss and how that may influence cognitive outcomes. A review of evidence and current studies will be provided.

Understanding the Hearing Loss-Dementia Relationship: What Epidemiologic Studies Can and Cannot Tell Us
This presentation will review and evaluate recent public health research that demonstrates the implications of hearing loss for the health and functioning of older adults, particularly with respect to cognitive functioning, brain aging, and dementia. It will focus on the strengths and limitations of epidemiologic research in order to provide practicing audiologists with some basic tools needed to interpret and apply epidemiologic research in the clinical setting, as well as to define priorities for future research.
