Professionals in the hearing healthcare industry must follow a code of ethics. Ethical guidelines can vary based on experiences and perspectives; therefore, each practice should create their own specific code of ethics. These should be based on professional organization’s guidelines such as the American Academy of Audiology or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This course will discuss the difference between laws and ethics and the purpose of an ethics protocol in a hearing healthcare practice. An ethical decision-making matrix was also reviewed.

The benefits of consistent, full-time hearing aid use are twofold: Improve communication in daily listening situations and enhance health-related outcomes. A challenge, however, is that many patients struggle with becoming independent problem-solvers when faced with challenges associated with hearing aid use. Too often, when faced with these challenges, individuals give up and stop wearing their devices or are faced with having to make an inconvenient or undesirable number of return visits to the clinic.
This course will demonstrate how two recent advances, Signia Assistant and Telecare, enhance patient-centered care post 60-day acquisition of hearing aids. The course will review data indicating how Signia Assistant and Telecare contribute to improved outcomes beyond the first 60 days of initial hearing aid use.

In this course we will cover the initial fitting steps for a successful Oticon More initial fitting using Oticon’s Genie 2 fitting software.

The perception of music for cochlear implant recipients is different than for individuals with normal hearing due to how the elements of music are coded through cochlear implant systems. Despite certain limitations, cochlear implants do offer opportunities for enjoying and appreciating music with the new sound from a cochlear implant. This course is presented by AudiologyOnline in partnership with ACIA.
