Innovation & Issues Concerning Over The Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids
Natus Sensory CEU courses
Presented by Douglas Beck, PhD
Recorded Webinar
Course: #40741Level: Intermediate1 Hour
No CEUs/Hours Offered
Over The Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids were approved and introduced in the USA in October, 2022. The initial arguments to allow OTC focused on affordability and access. Although access has been readily addressed, affordability is still a significant issue. Further, the hearing aid stigma is still a significant impediment to large scale acceptance. Beck & Harvey noted that unless stigma due to cosmetic issues was addressed, acceptance would remain impeded. In this presentation we examine the impact of OTC, the state of the prescription market, and new innovations which address the three main impediments to acceptance.

Speech in Noise – How, Why & How Fast
Natus Sensory CEU courses
Recorded Webinar
Course: #40745Level: Intermediate1 Hour
No CEUs/Hours Offered
The primary complaint from patients to hearing care professionals is the inability to understand speech in noise. However, fewer than 20% of all audiometric evaluations include speech-in-noise (SIN) testing. In this class, we will review how to assess SIN in under 3 minutes, how to interpret the results, and how to select and program amplification to better meet the needs of the patient/client.

Separating the causes of listening difficulties
Natus Sensory CEU courses
Presented by Harvey Dillon, PhD
Recorded Webinar
Course: #40749Level: Intermediate1 Hour
No CEUs/Hours Offered
Auditory processing disorder, defined here as a deficit in how the brain analyzes sounds, has remained a controversial topic within audiology for decades. Some controversy concerns what the disorder is called; more substantively, even its existence has been questioned. This talk will be directed toward understanding and quantifying the multiple causes of listening difficulties in people with normal or near-normal hearing thresholds. These causes include various types of auditory processing disorders and deficits in memory, attention, language, speech sound perception and potentially sub-clinical hearing loss.

Audiologist-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Tinnitus, Hyperacusis and Misophonia
Natus Sensory CEU courses
Presented by Hashir Aazh, MD

Tinnitus is the sensation of sound without any external source. Sound intolerance can be divided into hyperacusis, misophonia and noise sensitivity. Hyperacusis is perception of certain everyday sounds, such as kitchen noises, bangs, music as too loud or painful. Misophonia is perception of certain sounds produced by human beings or animals, such as eating and breathing noises, as disgusting, offensive or annoying.
