Question

When and why should I consider a Link M hearing aid for my patient over any other Phonak or non-Phonak hearing aid?

Answer

Since 2007, Phonak Naída™ has become synonymous with power, durability and features designed to meet the challenges of individuals with severe-to-profound hearing loss. Phonak pediatric solutions also have a rich history, and since the Phonak Quest™ platform, we have dedicated the Phonak Sky™ portfolio to our littlest ears.

Now we are pleased to offer the Naída Link M and the Sky Link M. Link M is a super power BTE that has the ability to be paired to a compatible cochlear implant sound processor from sister brand, Advanced Bionics. Patients can enjoy a state-of-the-art hearing aid in monaural or binaural configuration, and if along the hearing journey a cochlear implant becomes necessary, the Naída Link M and Sky Link M can be used in a bimodal configuration.

As a standalone hearing instrument, the multifunctional Naída Link M and Sky Link M offer your patients all of the benefits of Phonak Marvel™ technology: powerful, rich sound, hands-free phone calls streamed directly from Android™ or iOS®, universal Bluetooth® connectivity, the myPhonak app with Remote Support and Remote Control, and AirStream™ for use with the TV Connector, a simple plug-and-play TV solution. Plus, there’s RogerDirect™, which allows Roger™ technology to stream directly to Marvel hearing aids without having to attach an external receiver.

When a hearing aid in each ear is not enough, a cochlear implant may be recommended. If a patient chooses to proceed down this path, he or she can continue to use the Link M on one ear and a cochlear implant on the other. Phonak Link M works in unison with the Marvel cochlear implant sound processor from Advanced Bionics. When configured as a bimodal system, the processor and the Link M are wirelessly connected and can communicate with each other in a coordinated, dynamic manner to align signal processing via the Adaptive Phonak Digital Bimodal fitting formula and binaural features, such as Binaural VoiceStream Technology, AutoSense OS™ (and AutoSense Sky OS) and QuickSync.

Hearing care providers are terrific at supporting their patients throughout their evolving hearing journey, and Link M is the perfect solution to provide a continuum of care. At Phonak, we believe that a person’s overall well-being is critically linked to one’s ability to hear well across multiple dimensions including socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. When you choose a Naída or Sky product, you choose a solution steeped in rich history and thoughtfully engineered to allow your patients to thrive and enjoy a world where “life is on.”

To date, research investigating hearing aid adoption has focused on intra-individual factors (i.e., variables related to a given individual). In contrast, comparatively less emphasis has been devoted to understanding how inter-individual (i.e., interpersonal) or contextual factors (i.e., situational) factors contribute to patient decision making regarding hearing aid adoption. This presentation will outline theoretical factors relevant to improve our understanding as well as be exposed to recent large-scale research studies in support of this view.
