For a successful examination, it is essential to inform the patient in advance that it will be necessary:

- Continue to take medications for the heart, diabetes, hypertension, and anticonvulsants;
- Do not drink coffee, tea, cola, or any other caffeinated beverage within 24 hours of testing;

Alcoholic beverages and the following drugs must not be taken for at least 48 hours before the test: antiemetics, antivertiginous, antihistamines, aspirin, barbiturates, quinine, sedatives, tranquilizers, stimulants.
During the administration of the various tests, the patient must avoid chewing, moving the muscles of the forehead and cheeks, and tilting the head in order not to cause accidental displacements of the goggles with respect to the eye.
