Question

What GSI equipment is best to use for the pediatric population?

Answer

For the pediatric population, the GSI AudioStar Pro is the ideal audiometer. There are many shortcuts for efficient pediatric testing on this audiometer. Some of these features include an assistant monitor, so that you have complete communication with your assistant while you are testing. The AudioStar Pro also has VRA stimulation buttons on the front panel of the instrument, so you’re not reaching for that remote when you’re reinforcing your response. The AudioStar Pro also can put channel 2 to microphone stimulus so that you can have a microphone for speech, channel 2, and the toning channel 1. There are several signal modifications so that you can present the FM pulse. For OAE testing, the most ideal piece of equipment would be the GSI Corti. The Corti is a handheld instrument that has many different protocols which will either take 2 or 4-seconds per stimulus. The Corti has a great noise reduction algorithm that even restless patients can be tested.
