Question

What do Hansaton's new easeHD instruments offer my patients with hearing loss?

Answer

Thank you for your question.  We launched our ease product line in April that has enabled us to leverage the strengths of Sonova’s technology.  Sonova has already proven to be a great partner for us at Hansaton.  It’s been a very collaborative relationship, where they have enabled us to do what we do well, and take it to the next level.

The ease is a full product line of hearing instruments.   We launched a new generation of instruments - sound, jam and beat.  The sound is our RIC family available in four performance classes.  The jam consists of our BTE and custom solutions in four performance classes, and the beat is our power BTE family for patients with severe hearing loss.

On June 18th, we launched our newest technology platform, easeHD.  This latest chipset delivers a first class, high performance hearing experience through intelligent, energy-efficient signal processing.  In other words, easeHD provides High Definition (HD) technology for the ears.  The first products we’ve launched on this platform are soundHD S312 and soundHD 13 RIC systems.  More products will be launched on this platform in the fall.

easeHD is powered by a much faster and more efficient chip.  The brain in easeHD is AutoSurround, which delivers world class binaural signal processing.  It uses input from the classifier for a more precise identification of the acoustic situation, as well as from SoundOptimizer HD and SpeechBeam+.  The end result of this complex system is simply high-resolution signal processing resulting in natural hearing for the wearer.   I should also mention that easeHD has Sound Restore frequency compression to help restore audibility.

What software is required to fit these new products?

Bob:    Our new fitting software, Scout, is extremely fast, easy, intuitive and precise.  It helps professionals ensure a successful fitting, and actually supports them through the whole process from the hearing aid selection, to fitting, and adding optional accessories.

What accessories are available with easeHD?

Bob: There are a host of accessories available for things like watching television, or listening to audio from your computer, MP3 player, cell phone, and more.  You name the situation, and with easeHD it’s effortless to enjoy natural hearing and outstanding HD sound.  These accessories include the uDirect 3, uTV3, uMic, and new to the scene, the uStream.

The final judge of the success of a new fitting will of course be the patient, and the criteria that they use may not always be in line with an objective audiological measure. This course will review some of the issues and options at play when having the patient weigh in on the value of the new devices.

As most hearing care professionals know, the functional capabilities of individuals with hearing loss are defined by more than the audiogram. Many of these functional capabilities fall under the rubric, auditory wellness. This podcast will be a discussion between Brian Taylor of Signia and his guest, Barbara Weinstein, professor of audiology at City University of New York. They will outline the concept of auditory wellness, how it can be measured clinically and how properly fitted hearing aids have the potential to improve auditory wellness.
