Question
Can you provide basic troubleshooting directions for an FM system or other listening system?
Answer
For an FM system or digital listening system such as Comfort Audio's Comfort Digisystem, it is important to check all components when troubleshooting a problem. Here are the most common issues and solutions.
The transmitter and/or receiver do not start
Charge the transmitter and receiver. When charging, ensure that the charger is connected to the power cord, and that the charging plug is inserted completely into the transmitter and/or receiver. With Comfort Digisystem, remember to press the On/Off button for 2 seconds to switch the unit on.
The patient reports poor speech intelligibility
There may be too much distance between the transmitter and the receiver. With Comfort Digisystem, the maximum range is around 30 meters. Also, check the distance between the microphone and the person who is talking and move the microphone nearer to the person talking if needed. If these actions do not improve the issue, try changing the channel or the listening environment.
Interference
Sometimes, nearby equipment may cause interference on a particular channel. Change the channel to resolve the issue.
No sound
Check that the transmitter and receiver are set to the same channel.
Loud hissing noise (no sound transfer)
Noise from your receiver tends to be due to one of two reasons: either you have interference on the channel you are using, or the units are not paired properly. Try using a different channel or carry out pairing again.
With Comfort Digisystem, pairing of units can be done at any time using the pairing button or via the unit's menu.
The unit will not start during charging
With Comfort Digisystem, disconnect the charger. Check the selection "Auto power off" under Settings in the menu.
