Question

How does Phonak Serenity Choice™ Plus expand the reach of the hearing healthcare professional beyond traditional hearing aids?

Answer

As hearing care professionals, it’s our duty to educate and bring awareness to the risks associated with noise exposure as well as see our patients through prevention, detection, and treatment of hearing loss. Since we, at Phonak, believe a patient’s hearing health journey begins prior to hearing loss being identified, it’s crucial we consider the impact prevention can have on a person’s overall well-being.

With Serenity Choice and Serenity Choice Plus, Phonak offers a broad portfolio of hearing protection solutions. Both our universal and custom options cancel noise and loud sounds while keeping relevant sound and speech accessible for situational awareness and communication. In addition to this, both options allow the ear to breathe, preventing the build-up of excessive moisture in the ear canal.

Our hearing protection portfolio includes options for the following use cases: music, motorsports, work, shooting and hunting, comfort, sleep, flying, and swimming.

Benefits of the custom-made products

When it comes to choosing between the two products, it’s important to consider the advantages a custom product can have over a universal one. A major advantage of Serenity Choice Plus is it should have a more consistent level of attenuation. This is because, as you can imagine, there could be a large amount of variability in how the wearer places the universal option into the ear canal. Some patients may not place it far enough into the ear canal or place it at an inappropriate angle. With our custom options, there’s really only one way to insert it, causing less acoustic leakage, and thus optimizing the attenuation and noise protection for the patient.

In addition to this, with the custom products, hearing healthcare professionals can perform an acoustic leakage test with Serenity Choice Plus placed inside the patient’s ear to ensure the level of attenuation is correct.

As a general recommendation for patients who need occasional hearing protection, the universal solutions of Serenity Choice would be a good option, but if your patient is in noisy environments often, I would really recommend looking at Serenity Choice Plus for optimal noise protection.

Discussing custom products with your patients

Serenity Choice Plus requires intervention and guidance by a hearing healthcare professional. Since it’s a custom option, it not only requires earmold impressions, but it also requires a discussion with the patient to determine their hearing protection needs so the right option can be selected. This includes choosing the right product, material, style, color, and filter most appropriate for your patient’s needs.

Phonak Expand Your Reach

As hearing healthcare professionals, we have the opportunity to expand our reach and support our patients, their families, and friends by setting them up for success early on in their hearing journey. By offering a broad portfolio of hearing care products and solutions, including Serenity Choice and Serenity Choice Plus, your brand will be expanded beyond traditional hearing aids allowing you to provide comprehensive care and be recognized as the primary caregiver for hearing health. Troubleshooting can be difficult from a technical perspective and often becomes more difficult when considering the human factors of both wearers, like ambiguous descriptions from non-technical people, and hearing health care professionals, whose skill may vary based on knowledge and experience. This course seeks to demystify troubleshooting by providing an overview of current technology, a systematic review of each component and a disciplined approach for cross checking the technology.
