Question
How do you perform a fistula test?
Answer
If you suspect that your patient has a fistula, the following procedure is standard among audiologists. You may use the GSI TympStar Pro in manual mode. First, set the starting pressure to +300 decapascals and then push the manual button on the front panel. When you push the manual button, the pressure will go to +300 decapascals and hold. You will observe the eyes for any abnormal eye movement. You can do this just manually or you can use VNG goggles or Frenzel goggles. You'll hold for about 20 seconds and if there is a fistula, you will notice some abnormal eye movement. You can also use the manual knob to adjust the pressure more negative or positive if you wish.
