Question
How do I demo the ACT test for my patient?
Answer
The first step is to complete an audiogram for the patient. Thresholds of 250-4000 Hz from both ears are required to perform the ACT test. After completing an audiogram, select the MORE button to access the special tests menu, which includes the ACT test. The initial screen will then display the patient instructions and provide a test demonstration. This demo will guide the clinician through the appropriate language to explain the test to the patient. Additionally, it will allow the clinician to play the stimulus and noise, helping the patient understand what to expect during the evaluation. It is possible to play the stimulus and noise as many times as needed to ensure the patient knows what to expect and test results are accurate.
How do I perform the test?
When "ACT" is selected on the audiometer, the custom ACT noise will be calculated based on the patient's audiogram. After the demo, a start button will appear, and the test is initiated by pressing start. The clinician will manually present the ACT stimulus at various contrast levels to bracket the patient's ACT threshold. When the ACT threshold is established, the test will automatically stop. The ACT threshold is used to assist the clinician and patient in choosing amplification that is appropriate for the patient's lifestyle and that will maximize hearing in noise success.
