Question

How is Cochlear making sure the newest products, like the Nucleus® 7 Sound Processor, are accessible to the earliest cochlear implantees?

Answer

Cochlear’s first implant recipients have been part of the Cochlear Family since 1982.  As pioneers leading the way for every recipient who came after them, we are excited to announce the launch of Nucleus 7 compatibility with the first generation Nucleus 22 implant.

This means that Nucleus 22 implant recipients can upgrade to Cochlear’s latest behind-the-ear sound processor, and for the first time, benefit from the smallest and lightest behind-the-ear sound processor with direct smartphone connectivity and streaming capabilities.1

N22 recipients were implanted long before main stream mobile devices. Now, using their smartphones and Nucleus SmartApp, these recipients can:

  • Answer a call
  • Stream audio unilaterally, bilaterally or bimodally
  • Monitor and control their sound processor
  • Improve hearing in noise with Forward Focus*
  • Enjoy the peace of mind that comes from being able to locate a misplaced sound processor

Last but not least, there are no additional attachments or additional intermediary devices necessary. We are committed to a lifetime of support for our recipients and are excited to offer Nucleus 7 for N22 recipients.

Chronic Otitis Media (COM) may contribute more than half of the global burden of hearing loss but there is no global consensus on diagnostic and treatment guidelines for hearing loss due to the disease. Research suggests that bone conduction may be an effective and patient-preferred alternative to treating COM-related hearing loss versus hearing aids for many patients, providing consistent and reliable access to sound regardless of the disease cycle. This course will focus on case studies presented by audiologists actively fitting bone conduction solutions.
