Learning the background of why we do the clinical tests we do was helpful. From that, I can clearly see how tests developed in the past may not yield results that help with diagnosis and treatment in the same way more current diagnostic assessments do.

Great insight in to the relevance of certain tests in certain situations - underscores the idea that audiological testing is not one size fits all but that we as clinicians need to be thoughtful about what we do and how we spend our time with each patient.

It is making me think about possible changes to my protocol. I have been accused of taking too long with my patients but the ENT requires AC, BC, WRS with a 2nd WRS to r/o rollover if necessary and Acoustic Reflexes for various patient outcomes. He particularly wants SRT because he likes to use this in his dictations. It is impossible to do all of this in the short amount of time allotted. I will offer some ideas for speeding up testing. If he doesn't like the ideas he will have to wait the extra time for the results.

Interesting intro information, well organized and presented. I think it is about time that we switched things up, especially in work environments where time is preciously limited and we can't always incorporate the tests we really should be doing with patients on the first visit since we have to meet "minimum standards".

Logical ways to look at assessment were provided. The challenge was that some of the suggestions are not paid for by insurance. So you can't do word discrimination only, you must do SRT. It would be great for CMS to look at this and give audiologists a little more autonomy in what tests would be most appropriate.

Love this concept. I recently got a letter from a health insurance company citing that I used Diagnostic OAEs significantly more than my peers. To me this was a threat; an attempt on their part to scare me in to not using OAEs or using the screening OAE instead. After this course I feel more confident in choosing test battery for the advantage of the patient and to vary this based on history and other findings. Thanks, Dr. Hall!

Although this is review of how the schedule and procedures were run in the clinic with the ENT I worked with the presenter was very concise and articulate in how he presented the procedures and time allotments he used to manage his practice. It was very informative. We were also on time constraints in the clinic as to the amount of time we could spend with the patient. Having said that if more time was needed with the patient we took the time needed.
